Do Dogs Have Dreams?
Dogs do experience dreams when they are sleeping. It has been established that rats do dream so it was a foregone conclusion that dogs, with their more complex brain, do as well. However, even before advancements in canine science categorically confirmed that dogs get dreams, countless dog owners have shared anecdotes regarding how their dogs suddenly wake up from being asleep and do things that could only be explained as a result of having a dream of some daily routine.
Electroencephalogram or EEG readings have shown that brain wave activity in sleeping dogs is similar to that of sleeping humans. Researchers concluded that dogs also enter a deep sleep stage and have rapid eye movements which are when dreams take place.
They also found that puppies dream frequently possibly to process as much of the new information that they are learning. Comparatively, small dogs also dream more than large dogs.
